Team blueprint takeover in mainland China
08 May, 2015
The blueprint team recently descended upon Beijing and Shanghai, tasked with the mission of spreading the word of our B2B accelerator. Our first programme saw just one international team recruited from outside of Hong Kong (Brand Pit from Japan). For our second round set to commence in June, we’re keen to increase the diversity and remain committed to bringing international perspectives to the Hong Kong ecosystem. With Hong Kong's proximity to Asia's biggest hardware powerhouse, what better door to knock on than our neighbour?
Henry Bott and Charlie Melvoin, AKA blueprint's business development arm, are based in Hong Kong but have both spent recent years living in the Mainland. These humble China veterans ensured that first-time mainland visitors Hilary and Michelle were in good hands. Taxi rides, dumpling scouting, selfie stick negotiation (#noshame) – the boys’ rusty Mandarin language skills came to the rescue.
In each city, team blueprint conducted whirlwind tours of main tech cluster areas, and held info sessions at prominent co-working spaces to formally introduce the accelerator. We loved using our new testimonial video as visual aid – and answering questions from the audience. In Beijing, we gathered at Tech Temple; in Shanghai, we hosted the event at People Squared. Both are fantastic spots and perfect for plugging into the local tech community if you’re passing through.
The team blueprint mainland takeover trip was productive and worth the effort. We were delighted to receive this press coverage from China Daily and Shanghai Morning News, and we were thrilled to see a spike in accelerator applications from Mainland companies. We’ll be announcing the selected startups within this month!
We’ll continue to seek the best B2B talent from around the globe for subsequent rounds of our accelerator programme. If you're located overseas, we would love your help in growing applications from your area! blueprint is proud to be one of the world’s few accelerators that doesn’t charge admission or take equity, and we go the extra mile in covering round-trip airfares for teams located abroad. We think that’s a pretty enticing proposition.
See you again soon China!
