06 May, 2015
Blue Sky Energy Technology are a startup to watch. Their goal of making energy usage fun to manage is resonating with corporates and institutes alike, all interested in reducing energy costs and making positive environmental impacts in the name of corporate sustainability.
We interview Blue Sky founder Christina Tang to get the latest:
Describe Blue Sky Energy Technology?
Blue Sky makes conserving energy simple and fun. Through an easy-to-install energy sensor and web platform, you can receive insights on your energy consumption and personalised tips to live or work comfortably with less energy. The platform also runs saving competitions across companies, departments or properties. For more information, you can visit www.hibluesky.co
What motivates you on your mission to change energy usage patterns?
We believe in solving problems bigger than ourselves, starting with ourselves. Our team's educational background spans from wireless technology to environmental science. Combining our skills and values, we started Blue Sky to help businesses reduce energy costs and improve our city's living conditions.
I personally developed a chronic cough while living in Beijing, and know of other close friends in Hong Kong who have also had adverse affects to the air pollution in the region. Blue Sky is a tool dedicated to taking small but practical steps toward solving an otherwise seemingly intractable big problem in our daily lives.
Who is your typical customer?
Our typical customers are educational institutions, public institutions as well as corporates with a strong focus in social and environmental responsibility. We are also developing new services to meet the needs of commercial customers.
Tell us about your interest in the Swire Group. Any meaningful connections to date?
The Swire Group are very progressive in their sustainability efforts. We learnt a tonne from speaking with their experienced sustainability team. The staff of blueprint have also been amazing in introducing us to various members of staff across the Swire Group of companies and also the establishments within their communities, including the nearby Taikoo Primary School.
We've heard rumours worthy of celebration. It sounds as though there is an exciting partnership ahead!
We will soon kick-start a Blue Sky energy monitoring project at the University of Hong Kong, specifically a partnership with New College. We share in their vision of raising a new generation of students who become responsible global citizens and embrace a sustainable lifestyle.
What's next for Blue Sky?
We are thrilled with the opportunity to work closely with HKU. Beyond this project, Blue Sky looks forward to sharing the business case and lifestyle impact of energy transparency. Our vision is to replicate the model across Asia Pacific, particuarly mainland China.
