Startup of the Month
28 January, 2016
Local startup Carshare was founded in December 2013 with just two founders on staff. Now their team of seven work from blueprint’s bustling co-working space, developing their car ownership platform.
Their concept is simple and thoughful: private car owners can use Carshare to rent out their unused personal vehicles on a casual basis. Co-founder Chris Yeung developed the idea during his time in the U.K, and was excited to bring it to the Hong Kong market upon his return.
While recognising that they are not alone in their plans to derive revenue from car sharing, Car Share certainly do things differently. Remaining dedicated to technology and focused on data, their competitive offers often deliver pricing at 50% lower than their competitors. Acknowledging that one car does not suit all, they also provide a wide variety of vehicles on their platform, to suit the differing needs of drivers all over Hong Kong.
Profiled by publications including iMoney, Hong Kong Economic Times, South China Morning Post and Bloomberg Businessweek, their home-grown story of entrepreneurial spirit continues to propel them to work harder and dream big.
With plans for 2016 including collaborations with car manufacturers and research into used vehicle trading, this startup is gearing up for a big year ahead, and has SE Asia domination firmly in their sights.
